Do DWP decision-makers receive training on ADHD?

Some time ago I submitted an FOI request to the Department for Work and Pensions. I had noticed that ADHD does not feature in the Condition Insight Report, the primary reference document used by PIP Assessors. I was worried that,  against the backdrop of sensationalist media headlines about ADHD, without evidence-based resources, decision-makers might be susceptible to bias.

“all medical protocols used by DWP and IAS when assessing PIP claimants with the following conditions: ADHD, Autism OCD, Dyspraxia/ I would also like to receive any relevant training materials used by DWP and IAS in relation to the above conditions."

DWP refused my request, claiming that it was :

"exempt from release under Section 43 of the FoI Act. Section 43(2) [as it] would be likely to prejudice the commercial interests of our assessment providers, and the department’s future dealings with them or other service providers."

I asked DWP to review their decision.  Their review upheld the initial decision so I submitted a complaint to the Information Commissioner.

My complaint was upheld and DWP eventually sent me most of the information I requested. Unsurprisingly, their response confirms that their staff are virtually untrained in ADHD.

This is unfortunately the tip of the iceberg and in the coming weeks I will be posting more of the information I've uncovered.
