Life-changing software alert. I've recently (belatedly) realised that user-friendly software does exist but it is produced by independent developers who are less interested in harvesting data and more interested in finding solutions to problems.
I cannot overstate the problems that files cause for me. I am in constant creation mode but my working memory issues and rapid-fire brain make it really challenging to keep track of what I've created. To makes things worse, because I'm terrified of losing anything and have transitioned from OneDrive to Zoho Workdrive (still the best move I ever made), I've ended up with hundreds of duplicates.
For months I've stayed up late to try to find a way through the mess. Then I stumbled across a really handy suite of apps by Qiplex (https://qiplex.com/). I can identify and delete duplicates, organise files by extension, date, name and then rename them. And if I have second thoughts I can "undo" the changes. Highly recommended.
